3 simple steps that will help you to start organizing your home

How many of us are shocked by how fast this year is going? Raise your hand! (I won’t see it but I know you did). If one of your 2019 resolutions was to keep your house tight and clean and right now you just realized is almost June (middle of the year) and nothing of this had happened, well say no more! We’re here to HELP.

With the Summer season right at our door, there is no better time for us to start getting our house organized. If you are like me, you will be wondering, where do I start?!

Frequently, I used to wish the day have more hours, in the hope that I can finish everything that I had “planned”. This thought just led me to find myself “daydreaming” for the things that I could have done.

For the simple reason that we’re so busy with the daily basis, we forgot or overlook the simple things that can help us to become more organized.

In other words, when it comes to clean and organize our home, we tend to think there is a lot that needs to be done and that it will take too long for us to finish. As a consequence you rather preferred keep overlooking the issue than actually take action. Therefore I want to share with you 3 simple steps that will help you to accomplish this task.

1. Make a list

To start with, in general, write down the first 3 areas that comes to your mind while you think on how to organize your home.

As a matter of fact, it doesn’t have to be the biggest room in the house or the clutter one, more importantly, the areas where you and your family spend most of the time.

2. Select Time & Space

Decide which room you will be working on it and the time that you want to spend on this particular space.

Either way, whatever room you select, it is a MUST that you pick a space that you can actually finish within this time frame. If you have a big room to sort through, you might just start with a drawer or two. The last thing that you want to do is end up running out of time with a bigger mess than you started with. If you have a big room to sort through, you might just start with a drawer or two. The last thing that you want to do is end up running out of time with a bigger mess than you started with.

It’s okay to take baby steps about this, the idea is that you can finish the task. It doesn’t matter how small or big it is, in the end, you will feel rewarded with the final results.

3. Hands-on

Now that you’re very clear which areas need your attention, make this happen!

You’re not on your own, look for the things of this particular area that bring joy to your life. Keep that in mind while you’re diligent working and organizing this room. It will make you feel like the time flies also, will keep your head stress free.

  • Tools that you always going to need when you organize your home:

In order to make this process easier, the first thing you want to do when you starting cleaning and organize your home is:

My recommendation is to have 3 big or small plastic baskets, the size of the baskets it will depend on the area that you’re working on.

Put a label on each one of the baskets: Keep – Donation – Trash. This will help you to sort the items better.

Again, just keep things simple and don’t over think, focus on your goal of the day.

Think this way, the less you have, the less you need to clean. Keep only 1 or 2 things max per item, mostlikey you don’t need more than that. If you find things that you haven’t use in 1 year+ you probably don’t need them anymore.

Don’t get stuck and stay in the past, don’t keep things that only bring dust to your house. You treasure memories, not objects.

Starting this journey of how to organize your home, it will make a HUGE difference from now. Eventually you will get things done quicker, everything it would have a place and it will be so much easier finding things, you won’t lose time anymore trying to keep up with the cleaning or looking for small objects. Meanwhile, just keep practicing. Sooner or later you will get there

So let’s recap what we’ve gone through today, shall we?
  • Make a list of the areas that you want to improve and organize. Remember it needs to be a place where you love to be in or spend a good amount of time.
  • Determine how much time you want to spend on each room or area, don’t over complicate things and set up short/realistic time frames that actually works for you. There are many other important things to do in your day.
  • Start working on your own path and help yourself with some tools that will make the process easier and organize at the same time.

If you’re looking for some other great ideas of where to start organizing your home. The kitchen cabinets are a great area to start practicing. You can choose to work on the small ones that shouldn’t take you too long. In fact, 1 or 2 per day is better then nothing.
